CHILDE | Gig Guide (August 15)

Woah. Bit on this weekend. I won't waste your time with chit chat, there's too much music too watch! Get on in it.

Drunk Mums w/ Charging Stallion + Lymes

You didn't read wrong. The Drunk Mums are coming in hot from their massive USA tour straight into a gig this Saturday in Bendigo of all places. Are they crazy. Yes, we can confirm. But hey, what better way to celebrate coming home from an enormous rock'n'roll tour than playing a rock'n'roll show? We would highly recommend going to this gig for two reasons - a) they're probably sounding exceptionally tight after playing so many shows in a row and b) they might be summoned back to the other side after the gig for fulfilling their contract with satan himself. I guess we'll see...

Saturday, August 17 @ Bendigo Hotel, Vic

Red Engine Caves w/ The Wilds, Marmalade Mama + MOTH

One of Freo's finest are having a big comeback, this Friday night at Freo social. A band with a cult following in the West, the lads have got the band back together for what is lining up to be a belter. With a distinctly Australian rock'n'roll sound, high octane riffs and some groove infused vocals, Red Engine Caves have a serious recipe for head banging and hip shaking. Our friend Annie reckons "They fucking rock, you can quote me."

Doors open at 7:30pm.

Friday, August 16th @ Fremantle Social, WA

Raave Tapes w/ Great Sage + Bad Sext

Raave Tapes are an excellent, genre bending band that carry the heart of the Newcastle music scene loud and proud on their sleeves. They remind me of the Boiler Room at Big Day Out. That's probably the best way to describe them really. Mixing electro with garage and punk, they could easily sit on a roster for the mid-00's, while bringing some of their own contemporary flare.

Friday, August 16 @ The Foundry, Brisbane

The Buoys w/ Viral Eyes + Pelican Boy

After selling out last weeks Sydney gig, the girls in The Buoys are heading off to the other side of the bridge this weekend for the second stop on their single tour. Jumping on the show are garage kids Viral Eyes and Pelican Boy (a Crocodylus side project). The Northside should feel blessed with such an excellent gig coming their way. Judging by the clips we saw from last weeks gig, you can no doubt expect high energy, tight music and some hair raising sing alongs. Get to it!

Friday, August 16 @ Park House, Mona Vale

The Pinheads w/ Dave + Uplifting Bell Ends

I don't know if Newcastle is ready for this one. The Pinheads have been tearing through the country with their high energy, dirty dirty rock'n'roll and they're heading from their own Coal coast to another town famous for it's coal related activities this weekend. With local supports Dave and Cronulla 70's revivalists the Uplifting Bell Ends, things are bound to get weird.

Friday, August 16 @ Cambridge Warehouse, Newcastle

Kirin J Callinan w/ Johnny Hunter

One of our nations finest and most controversial recent exports, Kirin J Callinan has returned to his native shores to give us what we've been craving. A big fat tasty Kirin J tour. After recently releasing an incredible covers album "Return to Center" and dropping a couple of amazingly produced music videos, Kirin is on god damn fire. These shows will no doubt be highly entertaining, disorientating and perhaps a bit of an emotional rollercoaster. One thing's for sure, you'll be needing your dancing boots.

One of Sydney's best up and comer's, Johnny Hunter, will be jumping on the bill, who, with their own theatrical qualities, will be sure to fire up the crowd just right.

Saturday, August 17 @ The Metro Theatre, Sydney

Rataversary w/ Rat Coffin, Hoon, 2 Mums, Scab Baby

A ripper line up for a ripper gig down the South Coast of NSW. Some of the best bands on the stretch from Ulladulla to Wollongong are all headed to Huskisson this weekend to tear apart the Community Hall for the second year in a row. If you're in the south, or in Sydney/Canberra and keen for a road trip, head down for this undoubtedly dirty DIY show, vibes will be high, beers will be cold and rules will be probably non-existent. Giddy up!

Saturday, August 17 @ Huskisson Community Hall, Jervis Bay
