CHILDE | Gig Guide (July 24)

Now that the dust has nearly settled on Splendour, it's time for us to come back to Earth, away from the Amphitheatre and back into the pubs, where you can catch the best acts in our country playing for us week in and week out. This weekend is no exception!

Pretty Littles w/ Batz + Destrends

One of the best (and sweetest) bands in the country will be lighting up Brunswick, Melbourne this Friday at Stay Gold bar thanks to the frothy legends at Young Henrys. Pretty Littles have been consistently putting out good music and good live shows for a little while now, and if you haven't been lucky enough to experience it yes, this weekend is the go, the gig is free and the beers will be cold. Pretty Littles kind of sit somewhere betweed bands like Smith Street Band and Bad Dreems. It's real Australian pub-rock with occasional throwbacks to the golden-era of Emo. They're an absolute delight.

Friday, July 26th - Stay Gold, Melbourne

The Grogans

These lads continue to roll through the country this week. Will they ever rest? Who knows. They're heading over to Perth to light things up for those of you in the West. A perfect fit I feel for the vibe on the other side of the country, laid back, salty and undeniably Australian. Then they'll be high-tailing it into Brisbane for another belter. Jeez Louise, bit on!

Thursday, July 25th - El Grotto, Perth

Friday, July 26th - Crow Bar, Brisbane

Nick Nuissance and The Delinquents w/ New Age Group

Sydney's most gorgeous garage guys (and girl) are on the touching down this weekend bringing their massive EP tour to a close on home soil. Nick Nui have been tearing up Sydney for years now, but I reckon these ones could be up there with some of the biggest yet. Gig fit and amped, the Delinquents will be on fire. Jumping on both shows are New Age Group, an impressive outfit that have just recently popped onto our radar. Let us know how they are live!

Friday, July 26th - Mona Vale Pub, Northern Beaches

Saturday, July 27th - Chippendale Hotel, Sydney

Skegss w/ Totty + Mini Skirt

It's the final weekend of this juggernaut tour and it's heading north. Friday night will be a special gig at Bangalow bowling club, a benefit gig for a local builder, in a much smaller room than the other monster venues that have been played at throughout this tour. In our opinion, we reckon it'll maybe be the rowdiest show of the hole damn tour. A sweaty hall at a bowling club in beautiful Bangalow? Yes please!

However, if you do have tickets for the sold out Brisbane show, that will be rather special too. The first official gig being held at the new venue in Fortitude Valley and marking the end of Skegss's biggest tour yet, it's sure to be a belter. With Mini Skirt and Totty having a week off to rest their less-toured souls, the tour will be going out with a bang... see you there.

Friday, July 26th - Bangalow Bowling Club, Bangalow

Saturday, July 27th - Fortitude Music Hall, Brisbane

Bench Press + Dr. Sure's Unusual Practice

Melbourne buddies and post-punk extraordinaires are heading north for a big double-header this weekend, and we couldn't be more excited! Both these bands have really pushed their genre hard, quickly setting themselves apart from the quagmire of Melbourne bands, and establishing their spots at the top of the crop. If I'm not mistaken, this is their first proper crack at the Northern state, so you sure as hell don't want to miss it.

Friday, July 26th - Bearded Lady, Brisbane

Saturday, July 27th - Vinnies Dive Bar, Gold Coast

Lowlife w/ Concrete Lawn

Lowlife are hands down the best band in Sydney. No question about it. They've got an incredibly unique sound that embodies what the Western Sydney music scene is all about. They've set the bar, and boy it's high. Their blend of post-punk and traditional hardcore is grimey, dirty and honest. Their following is somewhat like the following of a downtrodden, underdog soccer team. They're playing at Vic on the Park this weekend which is also one of the funnest venues in Sydney. Going along for the ride are Concrete Lawn, who are on the up and up, full of raw energy and "fuck you" they're a great live act, and the next generation of the Sydney sound.

This will be a historic gig... don't miss it Sydney-siders!

Friday, July 26th - Vic on the Park, Sydney

So get out there, support some great local music, have a dig and take care of each other.
